race day!

today is a public holiday in victoria called melbourne cup day.  it's a HUGE deal here!  lots of people took off of work yesterday to go shopping for their outfits for the races today.  it's the biggest race in australia and was only a 20 min. tram ride away!  it was really fun to get all dressed up.  i had no idea people actually dressed like this with the big hats and feathers on their heads!  it was fun to see all the bizzare outfits.  the guys get really dressed up as well.  

definitely a new and exciting experience!
